Some people are able to express their deepest soul through songs. I won't even start about writing the songs; that's pure magic to me in some occasions. I'll stick to the covers, just the performance.
My favorite band Pearl Jam
is a great cover band in that way; the songs really come alive and show all their meaning when they cover them. Props to the wizards who wrote them, like Neil Young, The Who, Victoria Williams, and many, many others. Or maybe it came to them...Evan Dando
is another artist I admire for his covers. No matter if it's Metallica, Oasis, or REO Speedwagon; the songs fully show how great they are as soon as he touches it. Gram Parsons
, his hero, got covered pretty well by him several times.
So, today it's thirteen years ago that Kurt Cobain
died. Five years since Layne Staley
followed him. For both I shed a tear when I listen to Nirvana's Bowie
Cover. Just beautiful, pure magic, and very, very real.
he died alone, a long long time ago
