Thank you for the explanation, as you're the first person to give me a thorough definition as to what a hipster is. And I must say, people who act like that are rather detestable.

How can you be a native speaker of English if you're not from an English speaking country?

Regarding the oldschool revival - I agree that most of what has been produced recently is B grade. Nevertheless, there's a great deal of potential. If the current surge in appreciation for the older style can produce a half dozen A grade albums before it exhausts itself, it will all have been worth it.

Yes, NegruVoda is some guy whose had an axe to grind for a long time. We've sniped at each other on and off both here and on the old ANUS blog. I think his argument is something like "UR SUCH A FAG METAL IS ALL NOISE EXCEPT 4 BLIND GUARDIAN AND HATEBREED". Emphasis on "UR SUCH A FAG". Freelance Fiend actually has some sort of perspective, even though I think it's misinformed and emotional. Basically he thinks metal is Satanic and psychologically destructive, and he isn't really very interested in anything that suggests the contrary.

I've grown to enjoy it more with each listen. Very heavy Autopsy (and some Abscess) influence, but this band doesn't sound like it's simply aping the style. The Spawn of a Dying Kind and The Worm that Gnaws in the Night stand out. Have you heard Execration, yet? It's another Norwegian death metal band. It shares a few similarities with Obliteration but departs farther from the 'old school death metal' mold. I'm still not sure how much I like it. There are some hardcore influences, and sometimes I imagine that this is what death metal written by (early) Neurosis would have sounded like. Worth checking out, though.

Yo, nice tastes. Is the new Burzum album as boring as I think it will be?

I'm just finishing up my degree at the moment. School has basically absorbed my life for the last two years, though naturally I still find a great deal of time to waste online!

Kudos on the Victoria, great work by a great composer. Tangentially: The new Beithíoch album Dúchas is now available for free download from (similar to Burzum, Disembowelment, Gorgoroth; and with occasional nods to early music).
