There are probably lots of things I'm forgetting, and always haven't got around to listening to yet. However, as always this list is a representation of my own personal tastes and what I listened to throughout the year. I should list a few honourable mentions:
Beach House - Bloom
Titus Andronicus - Local Business
Sleigh Bells - Reign Of Terror
Calexico - Algiers
Jack White - Blunderbuss
The Evens - The Odds
Future Of The Left - The Plot Against Common Sense
Tilts - Tilts
Liars - WIXIW
Andrew Bird - Hands Of Glory
Big Boi - Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumours
Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action At A Distance
There are some very good records there, like Beach House and Lotus Plaza, but I just liked everything from 1-20 more.
Also this year I will say there are a few albums that really disappointed me. However, this is not to say I didn't like the albums (in some cases). For example, Animal Collective.
Centipede Hz is actually in my top 20. But it still is a very disappointing album. This is mainly due to comparison with their previous releases such as Feels, Strawberry Jam and most obviously Merriweather Post Pavilion. It's good, but nowhere on par with those outstanding records.
Next there is WIXIW by Liars. I adore Liars. It should be noted that they do change their style a lot. WIXIW was a predominantly a more electronic affair, but that's not what's disappointing about it. Once again it's good, just not as good as Sisterworld, or their self titled record.
Big Boi's new record is another one. After his first solo outing, it's a no-brainer why people were looking forward to his sophomore release. Where it shines in places, it's just no Sir Lucious Left Foot.
There is one record that was released this year that I didn't include on my honours list , purely because I just don't get it. Sigur Rós, Valtari. A new Sigur Rós album shouldn't be that boring. I really can't listen to it, nothing goes on in the album and to me every track becomes indistinguishable from the next. This should be treated as my opinion, as I know there are people that will honestly like this album. If you want to listen to Valtari, go ahead; but I'm going to go listen to Ágætis byrjun instead. So my title of 'most disappointing album of 2012' goes to Valtari by Sigur Rós.
