Argument and End Hits are imho the most accessible Fugazi Albums. Red Medicine, Killtaker and Repeater are a bit harder but yet brilliant :)

That's really lucky, finding an admirable band performing in such a personal setting. I'm still hopeful on a Tool concert on more personal level than the gigantic sports stadium I went to in 2006. Porcupine Tree though, that's a very nice find. Exactly what I meant with 'experiencing music on more personal levels', I've seen them perform regularly in a defunct church with fantastic acoustics. It really moves the music up a few levels. From what I can tell from your scrobbles, you've reached into some older albums such as Stupid Dream and Sky moves sideways. They've developed an edge in their attitude, over the years, much like a teenager into an elderly man, you could say. From an awe-inspired disposition to rule the world, to a reflective one, wondering if there's something left to fix. I would therefore recommend listening to their albums in their chronologic order. See if you notice it as well. Or maybe it's just me.

I'm giving Postman Syndrome a spin, and within 10 seconds I'm wondering how I could possibly convert this youtube to MP3s so I can listen to it in my car. Thanks dude.

No, I haven't, but I checked their last.fm profile and it looks promising. I'm not sure I can find their music though, seems very niche (±2,600 listeners)

David beat me to it, and he's more familiar with them than I'll ever be. Take his advice. As far as the singer being an acquired taste, I completely agree. If you like DT's progressive music and want less (or zero) singing, check out Liquid Tension Experiment. That group has core members from DT in it, and they focus on instrumental tracks.

(I ran out of characters.) I also wanted to say that each album is stand-alone and you can dive into DT wherever you want. I began with Falling into Infinity which is considered their most terrible album ever (they even briefly considered to break up after that record), but I loved the first track so much I listened to it on repeat for hours. Since DT is a band which music is influenced by the 'proggy' sound of the earl 90s, you can pass on some of the older albums (particularly the first one) if that's not your thing. It's interesting to see in any case that the degree in terms of sound, from 90s progrock to modern progmetal, DT has progressed further and further each album. As for myself I stopped listening actively to DT since Train of Thought which I sort of liked for its raw, powerful sound, but is actually nowhere as entertaining on the long run as for instance Six Degrees, or Awake. The albums that came after Train of Thought. Hope this helps!

hey there — i saw you writing on Shawn's wall asking about Dream Theater. I took the liberty of answering it for you since I pretty much 'grew up' with them musically: that means, DT was the first band I fell completely in love with, and my musical taste buds began to develop. That was eight years ago, and I've come a long way since then, but every now and then I give DT albums a spin, partly for good times sake, partly because yes, they are incredible. Be forewarned though, the singer is (and has always been) an acquired taste. The drummer, guitarist, and keys are out of this world though and more than make up for it. In my personal experience, the last few albums are very nondescript (perhaps because I'm "too" used to the DT sound). The best album in my opinion is Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, a double CD with a 45 minute rollercoaster ride (songs strung up into one song), and six individual great songs. Be sure to check out A Change of Seasons and Scenes of a Memory PT2.
