My Review

Вс 2 Окт – Apocalyptica, Therapy?

Apocalyptica rocked the Kyiv stage for the third time! This was my second Apo live experience, so I have something to compare with :)

First of all, the organisation was really good - as for me, it's one of the most important things for successful concert. The concert started at 19:20 instead of 19:00, but I guess everybody has already got used to such state of affairs :) The warm-up band was Therapy?, great Irish guys with a good sense of humour and a couple of wonderful songs. They even learnt several Ukrainian words, which made me really glad. I'm not a fan of theirs, but I recognized such songs as Nowhere , Diane , Potato Junkie. They were really good! Their performance lasted for an hour though (too long for the warm-up band, as for me).
Then a technical break came along, it took about 20 min. Everyone was so anxious to finally see Apocalyptica live. A big surprise was to hear Hallelujah playing (not by Apo, just on its own). I guess it was some special trick :) The guys appeared at the stage at 20:50 (yeah, I looked at my watch :) with On the Rooftop With Quasimodo - a track from their new studio album "7th Symphony" ! A great song, a nice beginning ^^
The next song was 2010, a new one as well. When I heard them playing Grace , my favourite track from the "Worlds collide", I was in heaven :) Mikko Siren was a star of the song!
Apocalyptica also gave an opportunity to enjoy "Master of Puppets" (track number 4 in setlist), "Nothing else matters"(number 10), and "Seek & Destroy" (number 14) - the immortal hits of Metallica. The crowd went very loud :)

I must say that Apocalyptica brought Tipe Johnson, the former leader of Leningrad Cowboys, for the second time - he was their vocalist last year too. He has a great voice and it was a pleasure to hear End Of Me, I'm not Jesus and I Don't Care (this one appeared in encore). Special notice: Eicca Toppinen sang with him !!! Just small parts, but nevertheless is was soooo cool ^^ Even Apo admitted that the audience was singing very well :)

Among the other tracks there were: a legendary Quutamo, Sacra (a new song), Last Hope, Fisheye, a very famous Sepultura cover Inquisition Symphony, Hall of the Mountain King. It was a big surprise that the last one mentioned wasn't the last one on the setlist, as usual. The guys were very satisfied with the audience and the concert itself, and performed Farewell - a beautiful lyrical ballad. The outro was Ruska - a traditional ending :)

One more important thing to mention - Mikko Siren's hairdo was very stylish :) Look for the pictures in the net and you'll understand me )) By the way, he appeared in the tribunes while playing "Sacra" - I really liked this trick ^^

I can't but mention Perttu Kivilaakso's Cello Solo - the audience was mesmerised with it ^^

To conclude, I want to say that this concert was much better than the last year's one - the sound was better, the audience was better, the guys changed the setlist greatly, plus I liked the choice of the warm-up band ( even though they don't really coincide in music styles, they both performed great!).

I'd like to say huge THANK YOU to Apocalyptica (Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso, Mikko Siren) , Therapy? and Tipe Johnson for the very bright, breathtaking, impressive and unforgettable show! Would be great to see them live in Kyiv soon :)

Thanks for reading ^^
