Card playing on a Saturday night

While adding more Aretha Franklin's tracks to my profile, I starting remembering when the folks playing cards with their friends on a Saturday night.

Card playing was a social event in our house. You basically set up for this event like a mini party - a little food/drink and lots of music.

They played "bid-whisk" (I admit I never really got into the game myself but it looked fun). They played the game, relaxed, and joked around for hours. Later in the evening came the dancing. Aretha Franklin's, Al Green's and Tyrone Davis' songs were the ones they sang along with.

The most fun part of this was to see them allow themselves to have fun like us kids had a "licensed" to do back in the day.

Their partial soundtrack:
Call Me
A Brand New Me
Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)
Love and Happiness
Let's Stay Together
I Can't Stand the Rain
Pick Up the Pieces
Supernatural Thing-Part 1
Clean Up Woman
Rainy Night In Georgia
If You Don't Know Me By Now
Let's Straighten It Out
Turn Back The Hands Of Time
Stormy Monday

I know I'm a little behind but I had to add a few more songs 'cause my grandmother threw the same kind of parties. Remember how they used to wake up us kids to come do dat dance? It was usually the point, funky chicken, penguin... Anyway here is a list of songs I remember from those wild parties: Victim - Candi Staton Young Hearts, Run Free - Candi Staton I'm So Tired Of Being Alone - Al Green Belle - Al Green How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - Al Green Lonely Teardrops - Jackie Wilson Sweet Love - The Commodores Just To Be Close To You - The Commodores Easy - The Commodores Zoom - The Commodores Concentrate On You - LTD

I also remember hearing Candi Station's As Long As He Takes Care Of Home a lot as well. Yeah, the multi-generational dancing that ensued was fun too. WE had a neighbor upstairs from us who also threw parties (w/o Bid Whisk). Whenever she threw her parties she always played Love Over And Over Again in a loop (gotta love Switch).
