That was the first Crazy Horse album I listened to. I should listen to some other ones.

Ironically enough, now that school has started again I have more free time. That album was "Left for Dead". I think its pretty good; Not as good as NY and CH, but definitely worth a listen.

New Goat out on the 23rd - actually Spotify has it already but only two songs (on the us version anyway) is currently playable.

I'm really digging it, much better than I was expecting. Supposedly they might release something else in October too called songs of Experience.

Listening to that Calexico album and the opening trumpets of Inspiracion remind me of some other song very strongly... and yet I can't quite realize what! It's infuriating... I think it was a pop band and instead of it being trumpets it was a keyboard. Oh yes I have it now!!! Billy Joel and Pressure... whew thanks for helping me out with this. ;-D

I have a few of the original Maiden vinyl albums, definitely want to pick up a few of the others that have been a bit more difficult to come by. I second that Calexico pick endorsement, that one was a really good one!

Yeah I'll go so far as to say they're the 2nd best musical act out of Tucson (a place where I used to live btw) behind only Linda Ronstadt - and I've only heard one of their albums once... then again, as I can think of only two musical acts out of Tucson I suppose that's not such a ringing endorsement as I intended it to be... doh. Well anyway they were a pleasant surprise. Glad to hear the cover band is upholding the might Blondie legacy! The original band 30 or so years back might have given them a run for their money though. ;-D

"Anathema, Blondie, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and Goat" Finally a non-DB Club band (Blondie) appears in the music-in-common list! Is Calexico your pick? I'm enjoying it... going to listen to it again for sure.

It's been a few years since I've heard Swansong, I remember being pretty disapointed with it when I picked it up. Heartwork on the other hand was a great album, I think it was one of the first in that style of melodic death metal.

If you only looked at the first albums before both bands went commercial, I'd side with Metallica. Megadeth definitely has the upper hand though in terms of larger catalogs and Dave's last few albums have been better sounding than what Metallica has done. I still can't get over how screwed up the sound is on Death Magnetic, should have been a killer album. Hopefully they will fix that eventually.

I still haven't checked out Pig Destroyer yet, sounds like an interesting one. I think I read somewhere that the singer is some IT guy that does the band on the side. Guess you have to have a day job if you're playing in a grind core band. One of these days I need to get back to checking out more Carcass. I used to listen to Necroticism way back in my DM days but I think they were more or less a straight forward death metal band by then. I just picked up an In Flames album today, good stuff, catchy as heck.

Oh yeah the golden years for thrash! I'll have to go back and look at the liner notes on Ride The Lightning, could have sworn that Dave had at least one credit in there for Cthulu or something like that. Kill Em All is pretty different in sound to Ride The Lightning, less emphasis on speed I think and more melody in there.

Maybe it has something to do with Mustaine writing a lot of the songs on Kill 'Em All? I always thought the vocals sounding different on Metallica's first album had more to do with James's age but who knows...

À propos de moi

Okay so maybe it's time I put something 'about me' in here rather than just band logos and album covers. So my history of music in short. The inevitable parental influences resulted in a perhaps unhealthy obsession with Queen and Meat Loaf as a pre-teen. As the teenage years rolled in so did mid nineties hip hop, soon I developed a rather bulging collection of LL Cool J and 2Pac cd's. I then worked my way backwards accordingly until I reached Public Enemy and N.W.A. With the advent of a new millenium rap began to meet with rock and a few misteps aside I developed a fondness for metal, Last Fair Deal Gone Down by Katatonia and Unleashed Memories by Lacuna Coil (a band who are sadly flagging creatively now) were catalysts into bands like Anathema, Opeth, The Gathering, My Dying Bride and too many others to mention. When I left college I realised that quiet may in fact be the new loud and the proof was in the music of Neil Young (okay he can be pretty loud when he wants to) and Leonard Cohen. Soon followed by more recent talents such as Red House Painters, Mojave 3, Kathleen Edwards and Nina Nastasia. Then a couple of years ago I found last.fm and perhaps the most recent major artist, for me, in Tom Waits. Somehow I have managed to remain fond of the majority of the music that has come before and I remain on the cutting edge, just last year I discovered a cool young cat named Howlin Wolf. I think he is the newest thing. Music has the power to affect us in sometimes incomprehensible ways. We should celebrate the best of it and perhaps even berate the worst. As Jurassic 5 said "the trash in the charts leave you gasping for art".
