I know, I'm not saying you did, I'm saying people say that often. Go no further and read what Cernvnnos is saying on my last.fm profile. As a matter of fact you can go into his profile and explain to him how Hitler was a Christian and how Christianity was indeed deemed from the beginning by Nazism to be considered the official religion of the state.. And yeah, Lutheranism/Protestantism in general had a major impact in Germany throughout the centuries, ever since the reformation.

    août 2011
  • methodpt

Sure, Christianity is still a major religion in Europe. But the point is: If Hitler and Nazi Germany wanted to change their society into a more pagan approach, then how the hell would we explain how they enforced it by official governmental means that all schools should have a Christian major role in everyone's education? The Article 25 of the Reichskonkordat is very clear in breaking the secularism found in most European societies by that time and enforcing Christianity upon its schools systems, from kindergarten all the way up to universities. It's like opening the gates WIDE for Christianity. It doesn't add up to the theory that Hitler was trying to abolish Christianity from German Nazi society.....

Although I'm an atheist (agnostic atheist, actually) I also like to learn about different religions, their history, their cultural aspects and so on, because it's interesting and it's part of humanity whether we like it or not. In an anthropological sense, it's interesting. And I happen to admire some religious figures such as Averroes, Maimonides or Giordano Bruno for what they did. I also don't deny the existence of God, because it cannot be disproved: the burden of proof lies on those who say God exists, those who say they're certain of God's existence. Just like I can't disprove the existence of ghosts or any other mythological figure. But they haven't been proven to be existent either. So for all it matters I don't really believe in them either. And sure, national socialism became a cult itself. And other cults were also part of it's core. We know Himmler had some pretty funky religious ideas and crazy mysticism. He was planing stuff for Wewelsburg castle.

So, according to you, the Nazis had more to fear from the Catholic church than from the rest of Europe? Well, the Church had little power in the 30's, so that medieval logic does not apply. That would be an anachronism. Most countries in Europe had seen a rise of secularism since the Enlightenment period. So the Church had lost most of its power by the early 20th Century. It was fascist regimes who actually re-established some of that power in their societies, breaking the secularism and introducing the religion as an official - and even mandatory - trait in the society. For example, in Portugal it was Salazar who re-established the connection between Portugal and the Holy See, which had been cut since the beginning of the Portuguese Republic. He then imposed it as the mandatory official religion of the state. So did Hitler, Franco and Mussolini! So it's not really a matter of "being scared" of Christianity, it was a proactive deliberate act to reintroduce Christianity in the society.

No, it's not just a motto. It's a Christian motto. It means "God is with us" and comes from the byzantine Christians who used that very same battle cry. He borrowed it from an history of Christian usage of that motto. For example Gustavus Adolphus, a Lutheran Christian was using it in the 17th century. Why do you keep denying a fact or trying to disguise the fact that Hitler was indeed a Christian? There's more reasons to believe he was a Christian than the contrary. It's just an overwhelming amount of evidence all the way down from treaties, to photos of him with priests and inside the Churches, from all these details in Mein Kampf, his education, the belt buckles, and so on. I would accept if you say that Himmler wasn't a Christian. But Hitler? Hitler was indeed a Christian. Or if he wasn't, he looked more Christian than most Christians I know around where I live... lol.

Yes that is immature and I don't do that. But I'm telling you, a lot of neonazis do organize invasions of Internet forums to post offensive pictures and to troll.

Also fascism itself had a long and everlasting relationship with the Vatican. Examples: Reichskonkordat with Hitler, Lateran Treaty with Mussolini, Concordat with António de Oliveira Salazar (fascist Portuguese dictator), Concordat with Francisco Franco (fascist Spanish dictator) and so on. So it's a recurring trend. The right wing has an history of alliance with Christianity, even when it comes to the nastiest bunch such as the Nazis... And I tell you something, even after the end of WWII, the Church has always been sympathetic towards fascist bastards and helped them hide from persecution... Want an example? Paul Touvier! It's not like I'm making shit up or distorting the facts. It's the crude reality. Oh and btw: http://youtu.be/iyYwo7X4zck?t=9s

And I agree with you, a lot of the NS black metal musicians are posers and don't really care about that much about the nazi propaganda shit that they add to their lyrics. Some of them look really ignorant too. I guess it's just used as an additional shock value, more than an ideological one. Some of them look so CORNY and so filled with gimmickry and trendiness, that I find it hard to believe they're for real... But nevertheless I wouldn't support it either way. And sure National Socialism had many things drawn from Christianity. Why do you think they had "Gott mit uns" on their belt buckles?

    août 2011
  • methodpt

Sure, I know that. Also women weren't allowed. But I'm refering to the concept of Direct Democracy itself, as in "no representative intermediate" to decide stuff for you, turning you into a passive spectator who barely even has a saying on the actual social matters and certainly no power to decide over them and to implement changes. I'm not saying that we should go back to Athenian Democracy as it was at that time, considering that it, itself, wasn't perfect either. I'm just referring to the main core concept, which is again possible in a big society thanks to the Internet and other technologies which should be able to assist the regular voting. I know Sweden has the Demoex project, which is very interesting, and Swiss has a semi-Direct Democracy... While my country had only 2 referendums in more than 3 decades, Swiss had years with 5 or more referendums. I'd say I prefer their way of dealing with referendums than ours.

And you can criticize me all you want for boycotting some artists who actively promote racism, bigotry, fascism/national socialism. I think I do have a point and big enough reasons to boycott them and to avoid buying their albums nor promote their racist works (and intrinsic ideals) through my listening habits. I'd rather listen to stuff that doesn't actively promote, in real life, shit like that, because that is a disgraceful thing that I will never support in any way, shape or form. And to end for now, I'll leave you with this phrase and it's concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came%E2%80%A6 . I will not be one of the lethargic, apathetic people who inadvertently support this type of ideals in our society. And that, my friend, is called "principles". I'm not willing to give them up and pretend it's just "music", like if they're not promoting groups of people who can put the society I live in in jeopardy like they did in the past. We had a dictatorship once, not again.

Are you kidding? I enjoy some Hip Hop, have seen plenty of neonazis trolling and spamming forums with their racist bullshit. So you're mistaken if you think "your side" has no guilt in this type of behavior (and worse). And you can see on my stats, I listen to a lot of different genres of music, I'm not a bigoted listener of only one flavor of music. I do think that NS promoted through music should be boycotted by the individual who does not approve it. I do boycott artists who actively engage in promoting some ideals that I condone and see as unacceptable, just like I boycott some products from big corporations when they fuck it up somehow, even if I don't mind the taste of their products (if it's corporation specialized in food or drink, for e.g.). For instance, I'll be boycotting the clothing corporation "Zara" now that they're found to be using slave labor in Brazil. I think I have the right to care not to support an artist or a corporation who engage in such a despicable conduct.

Sure go ahead. Sure, music is freedom of speech. I never said that we should band NS Black Metal, did I? I only pointed to the fact that it is oxymoronic in it's very core. And I did that, I did it with my right to freedom of speech. I'm an antifa (since I'm against fascism) but I'm not communist, I despise communism and its crimes, such as Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge crimes against the Cambodian people. I consider myself a secular humanist who supports a Direct Democracy, where people decide over the laws and governmental issues, instead of a Representative Democracy, which I find to be an insult to the true definition of Democracy as it was created in Athens, thousands of years ago.Actually I did that in order to start a discussion, It wasn't a trolling, it was a sarcastic comment at best. It's not like I'm being provocative for no apparent reason. I do have my reasons and I do have my arguments to back it up.

    août 2011
  • methodpt

Well, you don't have to read it. And unless you have arguments to counter what I say, as long as there's people saying the contrary to what I pointed out in those shoutboxes, I have every right to do as I please. So please, if you don't want to read about it just ignore it unless you want to discuss it. If you think you can refute my argument, then go ahead. I'm here, ready to discuss. Be my guest. Also as long as I'm prepared to use arguments to defend my position, it's not really trolling, because trolling is usually done without a purpose other than laughter. Although I laugh a lot over neonazis, I do take it serious when I discuss these matters.
