You kinda illustrated my point. In the "underground (though not so much anymore)" place she was huge to the point of annoyance - but it's not like shes Adele or whatnot. I meant to say, average people wouldn't recognize the name and probably never will. I understand the annoyance at overhype (especially when it invades one's social circles), and how large the 'indie' crowd is.. I just feel tha it's signifance to actual popular culture is far less than we can see from our POVs. Still, I don't see how she got such hype, good or bad. I'll have to listen again sometime since I can't even recall how it sounded now heh

ps, heard that new OPN remix ep? Interesting takes on a few songs. I'd love to hear an entire Replica remix album a la that King Midas Sound lp last year..

but how 'famous' is she? I think we music aficionados - especially on sites like this - lose perspective about what's popular and not. To say no one in my entire circle of IRL friends would recognize her is an understatement. Anyway, I know what you mean - its a further extension of the chillwave/witch house/etc thing that armies of bands have been doing lately, and overdoing to death. I heard a couple songs on her split last year with D'eon at a friend's place and was not impressed but this album had been getting acclaim so I had to at least try it. Anyway I'm rambling, I just found it curious that she gets so much ire.

lol she seems to stir up shit (at least on my charts!) - I don't even know, listened while getting ready for work. didn't strike me or anything but why so hated?? I should listen to Korn and see what happens!

Hi Aaron, I like the pictures here. Great colours. Greetings from one music freak to another (wish I would have had detected audioscrobbler in 2003..;)) , Andreas

Well because of the amount I spent I fully intend to use them for all purposes... and you talk about the cord breaking but on the TMA-1's it's fully replaceable - oosh, chalk one up for Danish design! Talking of records, I only just earlier bought BRSTL002, from that new vinyl-only house label, I'm currently in love with the A side. I'm not sure what to say about your vision of asian techno, sounds utopian, I think haha...

Ah well I didn't pay £200, more like £140. Had I been paying that much I might have looked elsewhere, like you suggest Grado etc. As for the tables and mixer, I'm hoping to aquire those items in the future, certainly one deck is on the cards. If you're not too consumed by work over the summer and are back in the forest I've got some new records and I'll happily let you play with the headphones on your superior set-up haha.

Yeah it was an ambitious purchase I'll give you that. SQ is weighted towards the low end (which I like) but the soundstage is surprisingly good for closed-back phones and I can always EQ when listening on my PC. The alternatives were Audio Technica ATH-M50 or Sennheiser HD25-1 ii but neither really appealed to me.

I bought them to use with my Kontrol S2. I did a fair bit of research and yeah they are primarily for DJing but the general consensus is that they are a great pair of headphones for the price range. After trying them out at the Apple Store I was pretty much sold on the sound and comfort of them too.

apologies for the out-of-nowhere-add but you have LOTS AND LOTS of music that looks rather wonderful and I would like to remember it all.

"3:00-3:30 on drax 2 is pretty much an exact copy of that #7 aphex track's last horn part. i've checked it so many times now. i hope that's just a sly allusion or passing homage... " Which time of Aphex's #7 track are you referring too? I didn't notice anything identical. But then, both are acid idm so they might share some even quite similar elements some times. Same has happened to me many times e.g with post-hardcore or punk tracks for a period of a few seconds so you get my point ...

well I actually thought I would have to ration the Actress after listening 4 times in a row when I got the leak, but after a couple days I had to listen again so I burned a copy for my car. then it just kept staying in my stereo because I didn't feel like hearing anything else, for days. then the vinyl arrived.. thankfully that new Shackleton is addicting me now!

oh hah just went to his page and saw you there! how about the fact that I can't stop listening to that Actress album?? if I counted vinyl and car plays it'd top my charts for months..

I've felt that way since discovering him. Nothing super original, he just does that sound very well. Ever listen to Desolate? same deal but with super deep dark sounds, could sountrack a Fincher movie or something.

Oh it's not critical, just a desciptor as far as I'm concerned. It kinda keeps you at arms length and that seems to be the aim. I just find the whole band has that package, with McGuire's warmth and Hauschildt's arpeggios and the atmosphere the other guy (forget his name, too lazy to look) brings - speaking of whom his album is easily the least interesting but it's a nice audio pillow!

that Hauschildt album is gorgeous too but a bit clinical. I think they just work best together, balancing their tendencies into something more.

Oh I'm sure it's probably Living With Yourself - I like Get Lost and it's super soothing and nice but almost too smooth. Still haven't delved into Young Person's Guide.. and of course the last Emeralds release is great. They are about due for a new one I'd say..
