hi, thanks for your reply. i tried to manually queue my records for some time but it's just to big a pain in the ass. also i don't want any third or in-between component in my setup that possibly impairs the overall sound quality. so i guess scrobbling from vinyl will always stay a dream :(

Didn't really enjoy it all that much myself either. Basically I've not got much desire to revisit it. Also, it's really short.

Werd. I'm either too busy or too lazy to keep up with much stuff these days, so Auxiliary is one of the few things I need to keep my ears satiated. I'm seriously amazed at how he can be so prolific but still keep the bar high.

I'm in Bristol quite a lot actually, albeit not for clubbing reasons. My gf is PhDing there currently, so Bristol is a candidate city for whatever my post-uni plans are. I imagine the production hardware route is much the same as DJ gear with regards to financial commitment?

Yeah I hear you on the money side. Seems like nothing when you get a couple of £5 records here and there. You're right about getting some decks, I'm just worried that then the amount of time I actually spend on my degree would become next to negligible if I got some. You say production 'gear' so I assume hardware? That's pretty cool. Regarding clubbing: Yeah, a bit. Southampton's got the makings of a decent scene going on which is handy (I seem to be involved with that too ... fingers in way too many pies). Haven't been to BR since last year. Have barely watched any shows for that matter. Too many streams 24/7, preferred it when there was one per week that everyone watched & talked about.

any destinations planned? i'm still dabbling with this DJ business, buying records here and there, and often seem to have an ebay tab open browsing decks ... also I borrowed a traktor controller for a while, which was pretty fun. can't really commit to it though, am trying to get my degree done first though ... too many distractions!

Oh yeah, I forgot that you were at RHUL! Have you finished your MA dissertation on Pynchon/DFW yet? The research seminar was just an extra-curricular thing organised by one of my tutors (I think Geoff moderated her work at PHD or something). Yeah, I'm still at Sheffield - final year now. I don't have a dissertation to worry about because I chickened out when I realised how much work I'd have to do, and chose a taught module instead.

I went to a research seminar given by a chap called Geoff Ward last week - it turns out that he made that documentary on DFW that ran on Radio 3 last year. He's also met Don Delillo, William Burroughs and DFW's sister! I've never felt so starstruck by an academic (he was a nice guy though).

No, I never got to see that production. Instead I queued up at the Donmar to see Ewan McGregor's portrayal (only a hint of shame).

McNulty's freaking me out a little though... all I see when I look at him is Fred West.

surprises me too. that fucking brostep garbage is literally the new nu-metal. It's all the kids burnt out on emo/hardcore wanting something 'modern' and entirely missing the point. I had to ask what was meant by "the drop" and then I felt even more dismayed when I found out. It's funny to think that electronic music is kinda cool again in the states, but it's a completely shit variety. When I hit my late teens there was so many interesting things going on that front, before the early 00's backlash... a shame!
