3 years ago, a friend of mine showed me a website were you could listen to some mixes : d-i-r-t-y.com. I found here a mix done by the french band Air, called "A Selection a Great Western Song" (direct link, RealAudio). Nice compilation, with some surprises (Brigitte Fontaine followed by Bob Dylan, WTF ?). Nice to see how songs coming from very different worlds can blend together like this.

Here's the playlist :

(There used to be a link to a mix's description, on d-i-r-t-y.com's mixes page, but the links were removed... I could find it using webarchive)

Bird
My Autumn's Done Come
Brass Buttons
Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy
Final Theme (on Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid)
Jolene
Everybody's Talkin'
Wonder Milky Bitch
Wichita Lineman
Fantino
Eternelle
As I Went out One Morning
Desperado
Dueling Banjos
I Wish You Peace

Enjoy !

(artist connections Air & Baricco Lee Hazlewood Gram Parsons Elton John Bob Dylan Dolly Parton Harry Nilsson Air Glen Campbell Sébastien Tellier Brigitte Fontaine Johnny Cash Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell Eagles)

It looks very nice thanks, i didn't know this website. The realaudio format is a bit of a downer but i can get over that... In a similar fashion, i found some great gems at mix of the week lately, these are MP3 mixes geared toward funk-disco stuff, you might like that (maybe you already know, i think it's quite popular)

Thanks for the site. I've done plenty of streaming, like the idea of the hybrid mix podcast. gotta do me some of these. On this particular mix: Interesting. Sometimes bizarre. Western perhaps in a euro-view, Pulp Fiction way perhaps. First thing in the AM tho this was putting me to snoooooozin....zzzzz.....
