The Now Show 7/10
Friday
Their Hearts Were Full of Spring 8/10 They’d put a lot of effort in complete with printed programme. Shame they didn’t have time for their full set but it was a great start to Latitude.
Simon Day 3/10 Very disappointing.
Grammatics 3/10. Not very memorable.
Tom Baxter 6/10 I was expecting a bit more acoustic singer-songwriter stuff but he’s got some pretty good lively numbers.
Beth Orton 4/10.
British Sea Power 7/10. Good but I’ve seen them perform better live.
The Go Team 7/10.
The Smiths: Musical 10/10. Hilarious.
Crystal Castles 7/10. Second time I’ve seen them and again I could hardly see anything.
Franz Ferdinand 6/10. Before I thought they had a handful of great tracks and a load of fillers. Still do.
Music In Spheres 8/10. Made an unusual treat.
Guilty Pleasures 7/10.
Saturday
Magistrates 7/10. Interesting new band.
Beep Seals. 7/10 Absolutely chucked it down a few songs in which got everyone cramming together under the canopy.
Robin Ince’s Book Club. 8/10 Lying outside in the sun listening to this. Some really amusing songs and poems which of course I can’t remember a word of now!
Simon Armitage. 8/10 Still out in the sun but with an ice cream – entertaining tales of I-pods and music.
Bishi. 8/10 Good mix of dance and acoustic stuff. Found I was sitting on the floor next to Lee Mack and his kids.
Captain. 7/10. Pleasant pop but nothing fantastic.
I Am Kloot 8/10. Good to hear ‘To You’.
Malcolm Middleton. 9/10 This was really good singing ‘We’re all going to die’ – fantastic Festival song!
Johnny Flynn. 8/10 Aw he’s lovely and shy.
Metronomy 7/10. Interesting use of £3 push lights you can get in Wilkinsons!
Sigur Ros 5/10. Afraid my fish and chips seemed to engage my interest more.
Club De Fromage/Feeling Gloomy. 8/10 Great setting in the woods with large balloons bouncing over the crowd. For me I would have preferred more Feeling Gloomy music and less Club De Fromage as in effect it was Guilty Pleasures all over again.
Sunday
Joanna Newsom. 9/10 Beautiful listening to this on Sunday lunchtime.
Phil Jupitus and Friends. 6/10 Amusing but not as amusing as the artists themselves found it.
The School. 7/10 Belle and Sebastian/Lucky Soul type wistful pop. Some songs significantly better than others though.
Milton Jones. 8/10 Seen him a few times and think he’s fantastic. ‘My other grandfather…’
Fryars. 8/10 Only caught the last four songs unfortunately as they were on a different time than my print out but pretty good quirky pop.
Stewart Lee. 7/10. I’d heard most of the act before.
Johnny Flynn 8/10. Second set complete with verses of a poem between songs which started as being a bit cringey but adorable by the end.
Blondie. 8/10 Fantastic greatest hits set. Too many long drum and guitar solos though.
Interpol 9/10. The rain was lashing my back but it seemed to add to the atmosphere. Fantastic to hear NYC. If they’s played ‘Pace is the Trick’ they’d have got 10.
Lenny Beige. 9/10 Wow.
Swap-a-Rama. 7/10. Unusual mix of songs but great to bounce up and down to Song 2 wearing other peoples clothes.
Fantastic weekend. Downsides – queuing for everything – there could have been dozens more food stalls. Recommend it to anyone.
