My top 15 records of 2008

After doing a more in-depth thing talking about each 2008 release I've got my hands on, I figured I may as well go in for the obligatory thing that is a list of records I liked, completely devoid of any explanation why. Everybody else is doing it, so why shouldn't I? All-in-all, there are 30 2008 releases in my library, and I didn't think 10 places was enough to get everything in that I wanted, so I decided to go with the top half. There were still a few more albums I would have liked to get in here, though. So many albums, so few integers from 1 - 15...

So here goes the list:

1. In Our Space Hero Suits - Those Dancing Days
2. Hold On Now, Youngster... - Los Campesinos!
3. Little Death - Pete & The Pirates
4. Let's Fall Back in Love - Slow Club
5. Waited Up Til It Was Light - Johnny Foreigner
6. We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed - Los Campesinos!
7. Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust - Sigur Rós
8. Life Processes - ¡Forward, Russia!
9. Neptune - The Duke Spirit
10. Dear Science - TV on the Radio
11. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
12. Youth Novels - Lykke Li
13. Santogold - Santogold
14. Box of Secrets - Blood Red Shoes
15. Couples - The Long Blondes

The list is ostensibly ordered, but the exact order would change so much depending on mood that I thought it a little pointless to spend much time agonising over the correct order of anything outside the top 5 or 6, so anything beyond the second Los Campesinos! entry (yes, they got two separate albums in here) should be treated as "somewhere in this area", rather than any definitive preference for one album over the record(s) immediately following 1/2/3 places below.

If you really want (for some reason) to see what I said about any particular record, go look at the appropriate journal entry (records sorted alphabetically by artist name):
part 1 (¡ - E)
part 2 (G - L)
part 3 (P - S)
part 4 (T - Y)

Sorry to say I've only heard three of these. Dear Science I thought was a good album, but the opening track just set the rest up for a fall. Halfway Home just blows the rest out of the water in my opinion. Sort of similar thing to Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) on Arcade Fire's Funeral - great album, but 1st track just outstanding. Of course that's not to say there aren't some absolute treats on both Funeral and Dear Science: ...(Power Out); Wake Up; Rebellion; Dancing Choose; Family Tree. Just heard Halfway Home on the trailer for the new Skins series, so fanboys ahoy!

Only three? Sort it out! Which are the other two, out of interest? Sigur Rós, obviously, and.. Vampire Weekend?
