In the Absence of Truth
Overall, I was impressed. With the most praise going to In the Absence of Truth.
After hearing so many people trashing the album, I thought I wouldn't like it at all, but I decided to try it anyway, luckily for me, I loved it. The vocals are eerie, and I like them more than the ones on Panopticon, even though they're marginally different from each other. My track picks would probably have to be 1,000 Shards, Over Root and Thorn and Garden of Light.
I have to say I was expecting more from Mosquito Control, especially after the great opening, Poison Eggs. But alas, the foreplay is left without satisfying climax.
Pelican delivered a much louder album than I would've expected, being the loudest album overall that I got in this order. I expected this album to develop a like of Pelican in me, and it did just that. My track pick for this album would have to be Australasia.
My greatest disappointment was Christmas. I was expecting greatness from a band with Aaron Turner and Nate Newton in it. But sadly, the album is all over the place, with ambient tracks seemingly thrown in for the hell of it, and the loud tracks not being too exciting at all. I'm sure some fan will tell me that I don't get the band, and maybe that's right, but this album just isn't growing on me at all.
