Sylvester Weaver

Sylvester Weaver is one of my favorate musicians of the 1920's, he was a pioneer of Slide Guitar with such tracks as "Guitar Rag", "Soft Steel Piston" and "Bottleneck Blues". Guitar rag is now a Country music standard and is known as "Steel Guitar Rag", which i believe was most famously covered by Bob Willis

Weaver recorded the first of what can really be known as blues in 1923, where he recorded "Guitar Blues" a sample of which can be heard in the YouTube video below:

He had a moderatly successful music carear between 1923 and 1927 and recorded with bigger names such as Sara Martin but then went into obscurity and has basically been forgotten in time, not many people are aware of Sylvester Weaver and the Impact he had on both Country and Blues music.

One of the things I really like about Weaver's music is the individuality to his sound, he dosen't sound like any other guitar player of the 1920's or 1930's, his slide work is really somthing different along with his vocals which also have the same sense of individuality. I would definatly say that he is much more than the average blues musician.
