I'm a fan of Dar Williams' music, but I will not see her live. Why? She's too good.
Dar has played live in my city several times and I've seen her thrice. She is very talented with both a clear, beautiful voice and a gift for writing witty, catchy songs.
But when she plays live, it sounds exactly like her CDs. Her voice is so good that she can reproduce the studio recordings perfectly. The studio guys probably had it easy prepping her songs for release.
That makes it a little boring, I'm afraid to say. In contrast for example, the Barenaked Ladies are renowned for mixing up their songs live. They change the lyrics and stick in some off-the-wall covers. Dar just doesn't show that same level of novelty.
Does anyone else feel similarly?
