The Borges references on the album are basically Death and the Labyrinth (the labyrinth is a crucial theme in the work of Borges and a symbol that can easily identify him; here in Argentina for example, a $2 [two argentine pesos] coin was released in his commemoration, and the tails had a labyrinth on it! The lyrics of the song are very borgean) and The Book of Sand (one of Borges more popular books, containing the homonymous short story). Also, Eater of Gods has very borgean lyrics! Tompa nailed it perfectly on the lyrical aspect with this album: I'm sure there are tons of references that I'll just get with further spins of the album! - well, I hope so LOL - ) By the way, there're also a couple of references to other latinoamerican writers: Cortázar in Order from Chaos, Carlos Fuentes in The Head of the Hydra, etc. But Sabato is obviously the main influence! Hope I was helpful with this! Cheers!

Hey Ritchie, how are you doing man? There are numerous references to latinoamerican literature in At War With Reality 'cause Tompa is reading a lot of of it (specially magical realism); this is because of his friendship with Anton Reisenegger from Pentagram (the chilean band, not the doom metal band from USA!): both were bandmates in Lock-Up (I think Tompa does not sing anymore in the band and now Kevin Sharp from Brutal Truth is doing the vocals; speaking of Anton, he is the narrator in the intro ;) [I'll follow this on another post because of the character limit!]

Avant-garde metal, progressive, power. Well. Well Its not necessary to be a gender specific. We don't always find the best things in the genres we like.

Welcome to my profile, leave a comment, if you want to.. if you have something to add, you like it, etc.
I've recently graduated a master's degree in Chemistry at the West University Timisoara. Now I work for the Banat Water Basin Administration in the same city. Although I live in Romania my nationality is Hungarian. I have lots of Romanian and Hungarian friends as well.

My music taste mainly ranges from melodic rock to death metal with the rare elongation even to certain types of black metal, too. I branch out to some jazz and blues and sometimes other stuff, too, like some good pop tunes or other types of music which are out there for me. Some electronic also goes.

So my preferences are heavy, power (both US and European, as well as any scene with any similarity to these styles, Brazilian, Japanese and whatnot), thrash, progressive, doom, death, doom/death metal and hard rock, progressive rock in any amounts. Later I got into stoner rock, sludge metal, more and more into alternative metal and rock, gothic rock and metal, even hardcore, grind or some black metal, too.

I consider myself quite open-minded but I don't take any crap. I mean, I really don't like most of the mainstream music like techno, dance, house and other types of crap like that). I also don't really like hip-hop, rap or dubstep, but they work from time to time, especially live. Some pop and non-rock artists are slowly creeping into my playlist, so I'm definitely expanding in certain ways. One of my favourite quotes floating around the internet: "Listening to a variety of trendy crap does not equal being open-minded." - it is so very true!! :)

Although I always go for original bands first, it's not the only thing in music I look for. Originality is one factor and greatness / enjoyability can be partly (totally?) independent to this. It's all about the composition and the song-writing. Technicality for that matter, even melody and anti-melody have to be used in the way they should. Song-writing is the most important factor of music. The midway is the best: produce quality, memorable songs, try to be reasonably popular and always try to find the equilibrium.

And one more thing: I don't accept random friend requests. I keep only real and internet friends in my last.fm friends' group, the others are just acquaintances. We may talk from time to time, but we're not real friends, I think. There was a time when I'd got lots of last.fm friends whom I talked to once and I didn't remove them from my list which is already much too large. Now I did that and kept only people I talk to more often, even if we don't talk here.

Leave me a shout, I'll respond the soonest, but my real and internet friends are not all guys who I talk randomly to. One shout does not make you a last.fm friend, neither do two or three.
