  • Lupe Fiasco in Concert

Tue 10 Apr – Lupe Fiasco, Gym Class Heroes

Well beyond my expectations. I live in an ass backwards state (SC) and not by choice (Grad School and it's a bubble so I'm reasonably protected from most of the ignorance except for that damn swastika of a confederate flag I drive by every morning). So when I heard Lupe was coming to town I jumped at the chance as one can equate this with Louis Farrakhan visiting the White House. Considering the crowd I was curious about how real the man was going to be. To my surprise he not only kept it real in every sense on the word, but also showed the good sense to research his facts. I went to undergrad in Atlanta where something like this is viewed at least among my group of friends as the norm. In SC Black People don't appear to have a voice and there is a sense of complacency that’s beyond me. On the other hand White People are like yea I'm racist and here’s a flag to prove it. I appreciate the fact that he came down here and didn't overlook this place as I think many artists do because the culture (if you want to call it that). Maybe he woke some people up. “Terrorism comes in many forms” and he was right to point it out. Thank You Lupe for the breath of fresh air and FUCK the swine merchant Maurice!

So I got this album and I played if for a 2 weeks str8. Its rare to find a Hip-Hop artist that has the ability to paint a picture in your mind with his/her words. He doesn't shoot anybody, get shot, or disrespect women and the album is still tight. Everytime I played the track American Terrorist I picked up something new so I searched the web for the lyrics and sent it to a few friends telling them to buy this album twice and this is what I got back. If anyone has similar expereinces feel free to post them. I highly, highly recommend Food & Liquor. Music with substance.

lupe is sick. but the album songs aint tight as the ones i've picked up just floating around. this is one of the exceptions. Pressure is fat 2.

I got three copies, one for the crib one for the car and one for the JOB. That CD is FIAH and long overdue! Peace an blessings to you brother and thanks for speading the word!

    Daaamn my [brother]...

Think I'm bout to cop this as soon as I get off. I
ain't know he dropped already, but that's bout as real
    as it gets.

    But I can't afford it once. B-R-O-K-E.
Lyrics are deep though. Is this why we fight?

Got introduced to this artist my Junior year in college right around the time India.Arie was blowin up. [album]The Colored Section[/album] was one of my favorites and I expected this artist to blow like no other. Unfortunately it didn't happen. I mean really, who wants to listen to some music with substance from an artist not afraid to speak "Big Black Buck, (materialistic depression of Black people)" among other "conscious tracks although there is not a sense that you're being beaten over the head with it. I guess people want to hear less about the truth about themselves and their realities, but instead would rather invest in an artist who wants to "see the crime rate go up", "pop a rubber band on her," one wispering over your radio "wait till you see my d..k"and if I took the time to go on it would get down right re-damn-diculous (trademark). Donnie was a breath of fresh air. is more than Lil Jon and all the other lil's for that matter and crunk music. If you feel India.Arie and Cody Chestnuttthen Donnie is worth more than a listen. Shout out to the for putting me on to these and others that we may never hear as they refuse to sell their souls and their people out for .10 of $13.99. Higher levels of thinking require higher levels of listening so listen up.

Love this album. Its funny all the song titles are in English and a small part of the hooks are in English but the rest of it is in Portuguese. My favorites are Team Zissou and Oh! you pretty things. Recommended listen at night or on a lazy day (rain is a bonus) tends to fit my mood.
