I had a friend, a girl who was doing a lot of scientific work on gravitation theories. we talked sometimes, and she infected me with an inspiration for maths; and I guess you can't actually stop if you've started - mathematics itself is such a beautiful thing, and algebra seems to me the very best part of it. nowadays we don't talk much: she's doing her researches far far away, and I keep digesting book after book and topic after topic. not that I've got somewhere near as far as she did, but I can't imagine my life without spending a couple of hours on some interesting math task a day. that makes me happy

well, I was studying applied maths (specializing in image recognition) quite a time ago, but never finished it: I quit university. however, some three years ago abstract algebra became my hobby: I self-studied a lot of group theory, Glaois theory, ring and field theory, symmetry due to Conway, some areas of Lie groups geometry, category theory (up no n-categories and toposes) and the very basics of algebraic geometry. now I'm up to start official education again, but in for the abstract algebra while being a software engineer, currently I'm implementing some parts of category theory in a functional language with parametric polymorphism. it's pretty fun that I can actually test theorems on something countable
