The lyrics matter to an extent to me. Death metal is intense and doesn't let up which I think is awesome. After a few songs though, pretty boring. Unless if it has as bass riff, those are always fun.

It takes awhile but it took me about a half a year I guess because when I got into it, I got really into the genre and was listening to the genre non stop for a long time.

@Heru: All of them are an extent, or used to be. Gojira aren't anymore, but when they were Godzilla they were, they also didn't suck back then. The only ones that aren't at all death metal would be DevilDriver and Lamb of God. Therion used to be godly death metal.

RicardoCarmine, it's not really that simple, slam death isn't exactly the same as deathcore. There's plenty of death metal with hardcore influences that isn't really deathcore at all, deathgrind for example.
