I have recently stumbled upon a great soul artist named Sam Dickinson, he has just released his new video and it would be extremely helpful if you could share it and spread the word. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8Cm8K7M_DI

Ugh...clearly people are ignorant. Blue-Eyed Soul has been around for a LONG time. It's not racist at all. It just means white people who sing R&B and soul music. Yes, race doesn't matter when it comes to music, but this subgenre was made because it was rare for white people to be singing music that was typically dominated by black people. People just decided distinguish white people singing a genre that a lot of them normally wouldn't sing.

Dumbest tag ever [2]. I don't even know why this is considered a sub-genre in the first place. What's next, "Blue-Eyed Hip-Hop"? lol.

Why does this tag or genre exist? It's all R&B. I don't understand the point of drawing attention to the race of the singer... Also, WHAT BLUE EYES? stop tagging with this people.

@Crustclock: The difference is that Van Morrison's (Scottish) soul comes from a completely different cultural milieu than that of the black American artists who originally headed up 'Soul' music as a genre. @akilahsigler: This is kind of naive. It is almost the same as saying that music doesn't need history. Consider the following extreme examples: 1. An "Irish Folk" musician descended from several generations of wealthy Dutch Afrikaaners, whose fortune originates from the slave trading business of the 16th century. 2. A group of Tibetan Buddhist monks performing Gregorian chant. Is it smart to let the wealthy Dutch heir be mistaken for an impoverished Irish farmer, or Tibetan Buddhists for Benedictines? When it comes to making genre distinctions in music (most are stupid and pointless,) it seems the only useful ones are those that distinguish class and ethnicity, as those genres usually have something valuable to say about the class and ethnic groups they developed out of.

I hate this term. Van Morrison is soulful as hell, what difference does it make that he's white?
