I don't think that songs like "I Know It's Over" would work if it wasn't for Morrissey's voice, but the music is still way better than here. Usually I pay much attention to song lyrics but Dredg is one of the few exceptions, so even if the lyrics were brilliant (and I really can't see that they are) it wouldn't help much. There's a huge difference between "simple" music and ... this. It wouldn't be a problem for me if Dredg were making Pop music now if it was good. But for me , this just isn't good. Or at least okay. And even if you were right with your interpretation - and considering the sound of the rest of the album I don't think that you are - there is no need for the song to sound that bad. And still the most important part: I just HATE Gavin's voice in this song.

come on, don't just look at the chorus, which consciously wants to provoke by it's use of clichés. look at the lyrics of the whole song and you will understand that there's a huge discrepancy between the rather dark, almost depressive lyrics and the happy mood of the verses, the chorus, the overall song.. its musical realization. this reminds me of the smiths. there's no "flat song" of the smiths. they've got the voice of morrissey, whereas the musical performance is either supportive or contradictory to his lyrics, but the instruments always remain in the background. it's the same about this song: deep lyrics, gavin's emotional voice and the provocatively simple music, which is contrary to the song's content.

öh? Dark lyrics? "I don't want to, but iiiiiii have toooo, i haaave tooo leeeet you gooo"... You can't honesty compare that to the Smiths. And besides, Morrissey has a voice that can transform a rather flat song into something great. The voice in this song is just as annoying as the rest of the song. Die Flippers [4]

the lover can't get out of his miserable vicious circle of "love" = the pop musician with his "message" can't get loose from the boundaries of the pop business. none of it is for real..

this reminds me of the smiths.. simple drumming, disctinctive guitar and bass interplay, cheery mood, BUT: very dark and introspective lyrics.. a total discrepancy between tone and message. criticism on pop music in general?! from this perspective: WELL DONE :)
