Wolves in the Throne Room, groupe américain, signe avec ce Two Hunters son 2ème album, seulement un an après le très acclamé Diadem of 12 Stars qui avait immédiatement positionné le groupe dans le peloton de tête des groupes de black atmosphérique.

@Krumbledkookie - Totally agree with you, if anything im completely guilty of snubbing this album. I listened to to a few times when it was first released and was blown away. But ignored it ever since! Thats gonna change. I do agree with people who dislike the album design and Logo i dont really feel for it myself either.

I continue to struggle with Black Cascade. I realize the challenge but at the same time it seems like they've lost some of their spark and already sound old and tired. If not that then I just keep picking the worst times to listen to it when I'm not in the mood. =/

@Windownig - That's exactly the point I was making. it takes more time to get into, because it's more challenging to the people who already like this band. People make it like it's some kind of fucking pop record. It's really quite excellent.

@Baurean - I see what you mean, about not buying into the intellectual "bullshitting" but i personally have a hard time separating the band's music from their eco-spiritual vision. I'm admittedly predisposed to that sort of perception of things anyway, and that in fact helped me to discover the band and then to appreciate them for all that they are. So I too could say that i appreciate them for their music only, but the music is inclusive of a great many things, to me at least.

I see what you mean, and because of the "hype" around this band I was also very skeptical at first. Thankfully I got over that, because they are too good to be ignored. ;-) Having said that, I'm too old to buy into this intellectual bullshitting by them and their fans. I solely enjoy WITTR for the music, nothing more, nothing less.

@baueran - All I meant is that people have thrown criticism at the band for somehow crossing over into "rock star" territory with their latest record. They don't seem any different than before, to me. Saw them play in May (in a bar the size of my bathroom) and they played with the lights out to conserve energy. Hardly rock star posturing, but somehow these guys are sellouts. I don't get it. And @ cameron_ - Didn't you hear? Xasthur is gonna be featured on a new Nike sneaker. Air Malefic. OMG gonna be epic. The first depressive black basketball sneaker.

It's definitely one of my favorites as well. Dripping with passion and intensity, it is. Reminds me, a bit, of some of the riffing in Queen of the Borrowed Light.

I don't get why everyone thinks this band has fallen by the wayside in terms of creativity and integrity. Everyone kills them because they think Black Cascade is a piece of hipster-pandering monkey shit, aka their "rock-star" record. That's not a good argument; when looking at things objectively, Two Hunters is probably their most accessible record. If you want to kill them for making a sub-par record, that's one thing, but it makes no sense to criticize the band for the people (supposed "hipsters") who buy their records. In my eye, what they've done tih Black Cascade is challenge their core audience more. I think it's a very good record, personally - though Two Hunters is still tops.
