What I got from the elves at The Album Club this month:

The Great Unwanted by Lucky Soul: I fail to see what all the fuss is about with this group. "The new St Etienne"? I don't think so. This is perfectly acceptable middle of the road pop music that is not going to challenge anyone. It will go on the next disc I burn for the car, and I will be very happy to have it there. Rating: 2/5. The best track is probably Baby I'm Broke.
Ash Wednesday by Elvis Perkins: I'm sure the record company and producers would want us to think the songs are artistically melancholic and certainly Elvis has had a rough time with his family (father died of AIDS, mother was in one of the 9/11 planes). He has my sympathies. But the music is just plain boring and the title track is outright painful. Move on, nothing to see here. Rating: 1/5, and that is being generous.
From Here We Go Sublime by The Field: A solid offering of electronic / techno tracks from Swedish artist Axel willner. Every single track is a pleasure. …
