Well if this is the only VdGG you've heard it's not really representative of where they went after this, Darkness is quite an early track. I haven't really listened to them for a long time apart from Godbluff but thanks to last.fm I am rediscovering how much I love them

Keep hearing people talk about this band in hushed and reverential tones. Up until now I hadn't heard a single track by them. Now I have, I have no idea what people are talking about. Although, I may be sifting bits from something that doesn't exist, but there are stylings of MGMT here in the verse, so if in some bizarre way they were inspired by this, then thanks VDGG, MGMT are great...

Never knew 1970s contained such amazing bands. This song is an example of what experimental post-rock and other darker metal bands thrive to achieve now. Nearly 40 years later.

Peter's voice comes in above the saxophone and Hammond B-3 organ, and guitars. and drums.

It's misleading to call VDGF experimental music. They are one of the great pioneers in progressive rock and the least recognized for their work. This cut is pretty good but their best work is A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers from Pawn Hearts.

And they became even more 'experimental' after that! I'm a VDGG fan, love this track, especially Hammil's solo on keyboard (the two "1 note" choruses are amazing!) "Bless the baby born today, flying in pitch, flying on fear!" XD

Can't dig this, but I am aware that these guys are talented at performing/songwriting and respect their artistic visions. A bit too experimental.
