VNV Nation est un groupe de musique électronique originaire de Wexford et de Londres, formé en 1990. Il est composé de Ronan Harris (electronique, paroles, voix) et Mark Jackson (batterie). Maintenant basés à Hambourg, ils combinent des éléments de trance, synthpop et d’electronic body music (EBM), en ce qu’ils appellent le futurepop. Leur travail comprend également des influences électro-industrielles.
VNV signifie « Victory, not Vengeance » (la Victoire, et non la Vengeance) et le slogan du groupe est « One should strive to achieve; not sit in bitter regret. » (On devrait s’efforcer d’agir, au lieu de se complaire en regrets amers).
À leur début, l’inspiration de VNV Nation venait du choc des cultures modernes et classiques en Europe, où mythologie et technologie cohabitent difficilement ensemble. Maintenant, leur inspiration s’est élargie pour englober une vision plutôt mondiale.
Leurs inspirations sont tirées d’un large éventail de styles dont la culture contemporaine des club underground, l’industriel et la musique classique. Les paroles sont puisée dans la philosophie, la littérature, l’art, la politique et les différentes formes de symbolisme.
VNV Nation ne prône aucune idéologie. Ce n’est qu’une métaphore pour s’exprimer.

Not sure how they position themselves in terms of Synth/Electro/Future - Pops, but this is definitely one remarkable example of distilled Existentialist poetry. John Donne- and William B.Yeats- inspired? Love them so much for texts&sound& emotional onstage performance!
