Wow, this took me a while to get to from 60k. I was sitting at home instead of going to uni on a Friday and listening to a SUPREME SHUFFLE and some Tripod came on.

The term Alternative Metal is used as a very loose categorization, but is usually used to describe artists playing a style of rock music which is considered a unique approach to Grunge music, but still play heavy metal. Many bands categorized as "alternative metal" are equally influenced by alternative rock and heavy metal.

Heavy metal is not an essential component of the music, but it was very different from the thrash underground of the 1980s. Initially alternative metal appealed mainly to alternative rock fans since virtually all 80s alt-metal bands had their roots in the American Rock underground scene.

Нет, все-таки нет в мире ничего похожего на японскую и австралийскую музыку.
Начнем с японцев. Они абсолютно безбашенные и ударяются в крайности за просто так: не знаю, что может быть позитивнее чуваков из The Pillows, девочек the brilliant green (ну и ещё десяток названий j-pop-групп) - если оно и есть, то я его не слышала или не понравилось, проникновеннее японских саундтреков - например, привет Yuki Kajiura, Kenji Kawai или той же гениальной Yoko Kanno, печальнее некоторых работ Akira Yamaoka, маниакальнее вообще всего j-rock'a и visual key'я.
Что касается австралийцев, с ними я знакома не так широко, но пример тех же Tripod с презабавнейшей биографией говорит о том, что в Австралии довольно просто получать удовольствие от того, что делаешь. Их зарисовочный SkitHOUSE - отличная штука для тех, кто понимает (спасибо, Эш!). Из девчачьих вот слушаю сейчас The Veronicas, чем-то слегка напоминает The Vincent Black Shadow, но поинтереснее. Вот видно по ним, что солнце есть и есть тепло, и вообще жизнь бывает хороша и прекрасна.
