Transatlantic est un groupe de rock progressif formé en 2000 par le chanteur/claviériste Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard) et le batteur Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater).
Le groupe devait au départ inclure le guitariste Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), mais celui-ci n’a finalement pas été en mesure de participer au projet. Morse et Portnoy l’ont remplacé par Roine Stolt, le chanteur/guitariste de The Flower Kings. Le groupe est aussi composé du bassiste Pete Trewavas (Marillion).
Leur premier album (double), SMPT:e (2000), a reçu d’excellentes critiques : Robert Taylor de All Music Guide écrit : « Une des meilleures musique rock progressive jamais écrite ! » cet album a été suivi par bridge across forever, ainsi que 2 lives : Live in Europe et Live in America(2001) Ce groupe est aujourd’hui en sommeil et rien ne laisse présager d’une reformation des 4 musiciens.

'The Whirlwind' is such a bloody amazing album. The bonus disc is also incredible. I've got to say I think this is the culmination of all their brilliant works thus far. Epic stuff. Also Mike Portnoy's singing on the 'A Salty Dog' cover is brilliant.
