Biographie

La chanson qu’elle interpréta s’appelait More Than Just a Friend.

v Her husband is both her guitarist and her producer lol, she ain't gonna change her "crew" anytime soon. It's a miracle the UG sound turned out pretty decent-to-good, considering it's the same team that did the abysmal vocal mixing of NoH and GD.

i dont understand how she managed to make guitars sound so shitty on her latter albums. they literally sound fabricated and lifeless. its sad that a beautiful tune like Digital Ghost has to battle against the sound of garage-band sounding guitars. she needs to fire the guitarist she's using (and learn to incorporate them into the sonic landscape) or just not use them at all. also someone was slamming american doll posse, to me that album is a fucking mess, but its the only album in the last 10 years that could be whittled down into an album of 8 or 9 great tracks.

    It's basically like this Parasol/ Martha's Foolish Ginger/Goodbye Pisces/The Beekeeper/Toast/Power of Orange Knickers/Jamaica Inn/Barons of Suburbia/Witness bridge - Marys of the Sea/Garlands.

As for The Beekeeper, I totally get why some hate it, but I see so much goodness in 75% of it. It's got to be her most underrated album by far. Sweet the Sting sucks though, can't argue with that.

@deadgrandma, I dunno, I think this whole period around UG has been good for her career. Lots of cool interviews, lots of articles about her tour, most critical acclaim since Scarlet, best chart position since AATS, ... those are maybe small things, but still it's something. The album's highlights + tour show she's still got it in her. Maybe we won't get it in the form of perfect cohesive masterpiece albums, but I can tolerate a Giant's Rolling Pin if I get some Oysters, America or Selkie along with it.

Eh the beekeeper has some strong tracks also:parasol, marys of the sea, martha, toast, the beekeeper and garlands are up there with her older works.Jamaica Inn,Orange Knickers,Mother Revolution and Pisces are solid too,so the album gets a pass in my book.So much better than American Doll Pussy and boring lifeless Father's Son.

i really think people are over-hyping these piano only songs. they're fine, but not up to par with her best work (by a long shot). selkie is good though. weatherman is a nice ode to joni mitchell but at the end of the day, not as good. also ill continue to be in awe of people defending the beekeeper in any way. just thinking of sweet the sting gives me serious chills.. ugh i just cant. a later track up to par with her best work? father's son

Hm come to think of it if i would pick the piano only songs on UG and mix with Tashless edgy songs(Fearlessness,Shattering Sea etc) it would make a really good album.I shall do that.

The mere fact I haven't been bombarded by stanny "I HATE DEADGRANDMA" messages shows how little interest there is for the album now though :-/ Although its no secret I really hate NOH, the fact that people still talk about it and play it shows that it had SOME sticking power. This new album's main appeal/fanbase has just vanished into thin air it seems.

Meh i think UG is a fine album(especially after the duds) but it is clearly not a masterpiece,GRP and Promise are not far from Not Dying Today,Ireland or Teenage Hustling in terms of cheese.Wedding Day is "AC 101" .Also Tori not using real instruments makes me really sad.

I also thought UG the best thing in a while, but I don't feel like listening to it anymore, except Wild Way <3 The album, however, IS strong.

Seems UG has met its death already. So much for the 'album of the year' hype that I remember reading on here. And to think that some of the songs are actually strong (as evidenced by some amazing live renditions), just totally neutered by its flat horrible production that inspires no repeat listens sans the piano only tracks. You know I speak the truth.
