This is Your Captain Speaking est un trio de Melbourne figurant au sommet de la pile de sorties post-rock australiennes de l’année 2006. En s’appuyant sur des références contemporaines comme The Necks, Silver Ray, Dirty Three, Laura, The Wintership et Because of Ghosts, Nick Lane (guitare/mandoline), David Evans (batterie) et Steve Ward (guitare) apportent leur pierre à l’édifice du post-rock australien, grâce à leur talent, rendu impeccablement au travers de leur musique.
Leur premier album, ‘Storyboard’, est sorti de manière indépendante en Australie en mai 2005. Il a déjà récolté pas mal de critiques élogieuses, locales mais aussi d’Europe et des Etats-Unis. Celles-ci voient en ‘Storyboard’ « 66 minutes de pur bonheur musical », « un des meilleurs albums sortis récemment » ou « un chef d’oeuvre incontournable ».
Les chroniqueurs ont - à raison - comparé le groupe à leurs pairs Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, The Necks, Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky et Ennio Morricone.
En février 2006, ‘Storyboard’ sortira en Europe sur l’excellent label anglais Resonant (Do Make Say Think, Kepler, Stafraenn Hákon, Dialect, Blindfold, Library Tapes). C’est donc en tant que premier groupe australien signé sur Resonant que This is Your Captain Speaking entamera sa première tournée européenne en avril et mai 2006, en appui de la sortie de l’album.
