Whiskey in a jar was written wayyyyyyyyy befor Phil was around - Whiskey in the Jar" is a famous Irish traditional song, set in the southern mountains of Ireland, with specific mention of counties Cork and Kerry, as well as Fenit, a village in county Kerry. It is about a Rapparee (Highwayman), who is betrayed by his wife or lover, and is one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs. It has been recorded by numerous professional artists since the 1950s. The song first gained wide exposure when the Irish folk band The Dubliners performed it internationally as a signature song, and recorded it on three albums in the 1960s. Building on their success, the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy hit the Irish and British pop charts with the song in the early 1970s. The American metal band Metallica brought it to a wider rock audience in 1998 by playing a version very similar to that of Thin Lizzy's with a heavier sound, and won a Grammy for the song in 2000 for Best Hard Rock Performance.

I have always hated that Metallica version, but the original Lizzy tune is a nice track. I like the mood.

this song makes you remember the person who was more than the love of my life ... even if the letter does not have much relationship. there is a part that I love is: She (He) swore That she loved me, no, never would (he) leave me But the devil take that woman (man), yeah lml

The original "Whisky" in the jar single. http://images.45cat.com/thin-lizzy-whiskey-in-the-jar-decca.jpg It's Whisky people. Change your tags, unless you have the Whiskey compilation or it's spelled differently on your disc/illegally downloaded music.

On that compilation it is. Not on the album or cd of Vagabonds of the western world. Check these yourself. A good 8/10 times, it will be spelled Whisky on compilations and whatnot. http://www.technodisco.net/img/tracks/t/thin-lizzy/760825-thin-lizzy-vagabonds-of-the-western-world.jpg http://www.israbox.com/uploads/posts/2010-02/1265576351_back.jpg

Whisky in the Jar is the way it's usually spelled when it comes to Lizzy people. Check the CD's and LP's yourselves.

@hanstone: Have you heard of Wishbone Ash? Both bands, TL & WA came out in 1969 and the two are pioneers of real duo-leading, I'd said so

This is a damn good band. Pioneers, really, of the duo lead guitars.

who thinks Metallica version is better - poseur. I'm a Metallica's fan, but Thin Lizzy's version leaves them in the background.
