Theatre Of Tragedy est un groupe de gothic metal norvégien originaire de Stavanger, formé en 1992. Le groupe fut précurseur, avec The 3rd and the Mortal et The Gathering, de la vague de metal atmosphérique à voix féminine en vogue en Europe depuis la fin des années 1990. Leur premiers albums tout particulièrement constituent une influence marquante pour le genre gothic metal.
Caractéristique
Bien que d’autres groupes l’aient fait sporadiquement auparavant, Theatre of Tragedy fut un des premiers à systématiser complètement l’emploi d’une dualité de chants contrastés: Une voix masculine (souvent ayant recours au Death grunt) et une voix féminine éthérée (style qu’on tend à désigner de « belle et la bête »).
La musique du groupe à l’origine alterne donc les parties vocales masculines caverneuses et féminines cristallines sur fond de riffs de guitares saturées, d’arpèges cristallines et de nappes de claviers, le tout joué à un rythme généralement lent.
Le groupe se caractérise aussi par l’usage de l’Anglais moderne naissant (l’ancien anglais de la Renaissance)1 dans leur textes (du moins dans les 3 premiers albums.)

Musicians are allowed to experiment. So, I believe all their albums were great: pre or post-Assembly. One should not judge an artist by a single part of his/hers work. They were great as a band, from day one to the end.

yea i know you guys only like the gothic metal theatre of tragedy cause that is how they started out and ended it is just that the industrial records are more entertaining to me anyways i guess it is just a person that like electro/industrial music
