Ever since I learned that this was a freestyle, this has become my favorite song of his. I mean it must be difficult as hell to vocally freestyle as well as he did (for 8 minutes), fucking pure talent.

Okay, don't get me wrong. It's a good song, and it's among the best moments in Thursday. I just think the songwriting doesn't live up to the production (kinda like XO in EoS). Thursday is already filled with lots of moaning, so it gets slightly too heavy when you get to this song.

I'm just guessing but maybe the hate is because it's experimental R&B, most of the people new to this stuff don't listen to mainstream R&B, me included actually. I guess some are willing to give it a chance others are just jumping to call it shit on a whim.

Kind annoys me when people complain about lack of songwriting/decent lyrics in most of these songs Abel Tasfeye puts out, but when it comes to other artists that also experiment with samples and loops such as The Avalanches people don't care about the lack of lyrics they let it slide due to the melodies, the unique and intricate sounds and the layers of emotion in each song. Sure The Avalanches used almost 3,500 vinyl samples so there's a huge difference but I mean no one questions their songwriting ability.

samhal, you're clueless imho. Music about expression. Words are not absolutely necessary. [2]

I hate this. I mean, I looove the production but there's essentially no songwriting involved in this whatsoever. The vocal solo becomes annoying after a while. ABEL, SING ALREADY!
