Kristian Matsson, a.k.a The Tallest Man on Earth, si son patronyme semble pour le moins usurpé, le suédois a tout de même de sérieux atouts à faire valoir dans le domaine de la musique. Il est présenté, comme beaucoup avant lui, comme le nouveau et énième rejeton de Bob Dylan. C’est faire beaucoup d’honneur à cet illustre inconnu me direz-vous. Pourtant, si le jeu des comparaisons est toujours un peu vain, il faut avouer qu’il y à quelque chose de Robert Zimmerman chez Kristian Mattson.
Même voix nasillarde, même ballades folk à la guitare acoustique, la ressemblance est frappante même si l’on n’est pas un spécialiste du grand Bob. Il serait cependant dommage et simpliste de limiter “Shallow Grave” à un plagiat, aussi bon soit-il. Passé le jeu des comparaisons, il reste un superbe album de folk, l’un des plus beaux et des plus touchants de 2008 avec le Bon Iver.
