Constamment présents dans les charts des années 70, The O’Jays arboraient un soul Philadelphia très dansant, aux lourdes mélodies. Fondé en 1958 et nommé d’après un célèbre DJ de l’Ohio, le groupe vocal formé par Eddie Levert, William Powell et Walter Williams est devenu célèbre comme étant crédible en R&B. En 1968, les boss du hit Gamble & Huff découvrent le groupe et cinq ans après, il obtient son premier n°1 avec « Love Train ». « Looky Looky » ou « I Love Music » sont maintenant considérés comme des classiques; en 2001, ils ont tenté un respectable comeback avec « For The Love ».
