The Magnetic Fields est un groupe mené par le chanteur et auteur New-Yorkais Stephen Merritt. Les albums du groupe consistent en général à de la pop au synthé type années 1980 soulignant des textes brillants, souvent à propos de l’amour, qui sont ironiques et humoristiques. Bien que les albums The Wayward Bus et Distant Plastic Trees soient chantés par Susan Anway, Merritt reste le principal chanteur dans la plupart des cas.
