Best of 2008
31 déc. 2008, 16h50m par onthewing
1. Beach House
“Devotion”
2. The Walkmen
“You & Me”
3. Wolf Parade
“At Mount Zoomer”

The Hypelist [ July 5th - July 12th ]

This week's Hypelist:- Rubies - I Feel Electric
The Swedes are putting out some really nice electronic sounds these days, especially on labels like Songs I Wish I Had Written and Sincerely Yours. This particular track is out on my favorite Norwegian label Tellé Records (first home of Annie and Röyksopp) and features vocals by Feist. Check out the really cool, neon-filled video, too! - The Honeydrips - It Was A Sunny Summer Day
Fitting for the season! - MaxxFemm -
Storm
Mellow, beautiful new wave. A gem off the self-titled debut E.P. Looking forward to hear what else this artist comes out with. New single expected to be released late summer. - Chromatics -
I'm On Fire
Bruce Springsteen cover simplified and synthesized. Works really well with female vocals. The original is one of my favorite songs of all time, and absolutely no harm has been done with this remake. - Róisín Murphy -

For the longest time I was pronouncing her name raisin with an o. Then I learned it's pronounced Ro-Sheen. …

A One in a Million Sort of Show
7 avr. 2008, 20h35m par BigBennyBear
Fri 4 Apr – Jens Lekman, The Honeydrips
Saw Jens Lekman with (at least part of) The Honeydrips at the Dise last Friday. The burning thought that has stayed with me since that night was this sort of show really is a rarity for me. Since rediscovering my passion for music, I have been to a lot of concerts, but that night was really something special. It is so rare to see a conert that is so moving and so uplifting, and this was a perfect example of such a show. Without a doubt one of the best ones I've been to.
Honeydrips opened, although something was clearly up, as they were running on half of the usual (wo)man-power. With just one member, it was an incredibly stripped down gig. The male member (no idea on names) had all of the music playing out through is Mac, and stuck to simply holding Jens guitar as more of a safety blanket than anything. All the problems aside, he put on a very good short (~30 minute set) of some lovely little Swedish pop songs. Nothing expectionally remarkable, so I won't exactly dwell on it. … -
mix for Winter 2008
30 mars 2008, 20h02m par madeofclay
At some points, I have made a mix each month - last year was an example of that. But in others I have made a mix each season, basically every 3 months. This time I was sort of forced into it, as I did not have a working CD burner.
What has come about because of the long time between mix making (the last one was in November) is a bit more of a refined disc. Not by much really - there are still oddities, no theme really, and it is just a collection of tracks from the radio, friends, blogs, soulseek, and many other sources. But it seems to have a bit more of a consistent flavor compared with my last few. It is fairly laid back, which is surprising considering the sort of semester this has been. Or perhaps not, come to think of it.
So, here is what it is:
1. Yeasayer - 2080
2. The Flaming Lips - Be My Head
3. The Mountain Goats - Autoclave
4. Pulp - I Love Life
5. Patrick Wolf - Bluebells
6. Lisa Germano - Paper Doll
7. Ringo Deathstarr - Sweet Girl
