The Dillinger Escape Plan (DEP) est un groupe américain de punk hardcore formé en 1997. Leur style, moderne et intégrant des éléments jazz et de metal progressif, est parfois qualifié de mathcore. Le nom du groupe fait référence au gangster américain John Dillinger.
Ils sont réputés tant pour leur musique, caractérisée par des structures rythmiques souvent complexes, une violence exacerbée et des tempos très rapides, que pour l’intensité de leurs prestations scéniques. Leurs influences sont diverses; on peut notamment citer le Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, ainsi que Black Flag et Cynic.
Des premières parties sur des tournées d’envergure (Slayer, System of a Down, …), et surtout la publication en 2002 d’un EP en collaboration avec Mike Patton, leur a permis d’acquérir une certaine notoriété. DEP a également été une source d’inspiration pour de nombreux groupes, tels que Sikth, Psyopus, ou encore Ion Dissonance.

All it takes is one journalist to call a band "Forest Metal" and suddenly idiots think that's a genre and a whole bunch of shitty bedroom Forest Metal projects appear. Mathcore is a dumb name, but if you're going to get hung up on such things, there's a lot of other equally dumb not-really-a-genre-genres out there.

Ire Works is expanding upon their sound in so many ways. lots of Faith No More influence on that one. I don't see how someone can honestly think Calculating Infinity is better, as much as I love that album.
