The Dandy Warhols est un groupe de pop psychédélique, formé à Portland (Oregon) par Courtney Taylor-Taylor (chant, guitare), Zia McCabe (clavier), Peter Holmstrom (guitare) et Eric Hedford (batterie).
Fortement influencé par The Velvet Underground, le groupe a commencé à jouer de la pop psychédélique et il reçut un soutien essentiel en Europe après la sortie de l’album Dandy Warhols Come Down. Quand Hedford quitta le groupe en 1999, il fut remplacé par Brent De Boer, un cousin de Taylor-Taylor.
Après la sortie de leur 3e album, 13 Tales From Urban Bohemia en 2000, le groupe gagna une base de fans grâce aux radios universitaires avant de recevoir la reconnaissance du grand public. En 2002 la chanson Bohemian Like You est devenue un succès en Angleterre après qu’elle ait été utilisée dans une publicité de Vodafone. Certains membres de Duran Duran ont participé en 2003 à l’élaboration de Welcome to the Monkey House. Cet album, ayant un son electro rock, s’est aliéné certains fans du groupe, mais il reçut les faveurs du public grâce au panache et à la capacité du groupe à se renouveler.
En 2004, le groupe enregistre Odditorium or Warlords of Mars dans leur studio de Portland, appelé Odditorium. Il sort en septembre 2005.
En 2004, The Dandy Warhols ainsi que The Brian Jonestown Massacre, furent le sujet du documentaire Dig!. Pendant sept ans Ondi Timoner filma les hauts et les bas des deux groupes.

By the end of the great war, The Dandy Warhols had progressed far beyond the traditional jug band sound. Zia had all but hung up the washtub bass in favor of her new invention, which she called the synthesizer. The banjo was still there but now it was electrified, to a flat microphone which Pete had wound tightly with copper wire and called his pick-up, and in turn made it louder by what fat-head jokingly called, Pete's Amp. Well, the name stuck, and by the time such luminaries as Gene Vincent, Elvis Presley, and B.B. King had heard this new Warhols Sound, they were calling it "Rock and Roll". Dandy frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor would be quoted as saying, "I know it's only rock and roll, but I think I like it".

Well I dunno about the last 2 records, but I downloaded the full discography, and about 1/3 of it is gold. Considering how much they put out, that's pretty good.

Some great songs and Thirteen Tales is an all-time favorite album, but wow the last two records are crap.
