The word was "alternative", in 1985 if you said goth you would have been the only one. Punk and dressing like the Adam's Family TV show do not win the title of goth either. Goth was in the 90s. Unlike Punk, goth didn't have a true "movement". Henry Rollins once said that you could dress like a preppy and still be punk so long as you had the mindset. Goth had no mindset to go along with the music and style of dress. Great song and great drummer especially, but not goth in beat or style or era. I was alive then and drinking age. I am not some kid living a fantasy.

While I absolutely agree this was their best album, thebroadcast is a bit off. Goth did exist then. "Love" came out in 1985. Bauhaus for example had released what... five albums before that? The Sisters of Mercy had released numerous singles and their first album came out in 1985 too. And give a listen to Southern Death Cult. Their roots are undeniably goth.

The band changed after this album. This is the best. Had it when it first came out and it was unreal. Sorry but The Cult were not goth. Goth didn't exist then. They were not grunge either. Kids !!! This is from the 80s ! Great times.
