The Clash est l’un des groupes majeurs de la scène musicale rock britannique. Le groupe a commencé sa carrière en 1976 et s’est dissout en 1985. Au total le groupe sort six albums studios durant cette période. Son style, généralement rattaché au mouvement punk, est aussi décrit comme un rock de combat politique. C’est un groupe qui se caractérise également par sa capacité à intégrer à sa musique des styles différents. On retrouve le reggae, le ska… The Clash a été un des premiers groupes blancs à assimiler des reprises comme Police & Thieves de Junior Murvin sur leur premier album et ensuite dans leur propre composition.
Le groupe est composé de Joe Strummer (chant) et Mick Jones (Guitare), parfois tous deux à la guitare et au chant, auquel il faut ajouter Paul Simonon à la basse et Topper Headon à la batterie. Les premiers albums seront les plus importants. L’album, London Calling un double album vendu au prix d’un simple sur l’insistance du groupe, sort en Septembre 1979. Les autres albums témoignent aussi du militantisme et, des titres engagés comme « White Riot » ou « Career Opportunities » restent des repères.

London Calling sucks big time. By far the lamest overrated song on the album "London Calling". No 2 - 8 are much more fun. Especially Rudie can't fail and Lost in the Supermarket. They sound quite poppy imo.

i hate how it's only ever yanks who praise the clash as being like 'uhh the best band ever', etc giving all that bullshit. WHAT ABOUT THE FUCKING STOOGES YOU SUBHUMAN SCUM. The Clash, bar some of 'give em enough rope', 'the clash' and a TINY bit of 'london calling' are on the whole shit, get a fucking life and listen to some real punk music, you've just been brainwashed by the media and mainstream.
