The Cinematics est un groupe indie rock écossais basé à Glasgow. Le groupe s’est formé à l’Automne 2003 lorsque Scott Rinning (chant et guitare) et Ross Bonney (batterie) emménagent à Glasgow pour aller à l’université tandis que les deux autres membres, Ramsay Miller (guitare principale) et Adam Goemans (basse), s’y installent eux pour s’inscrire dans une école de musique.
Le groupe décroche un contrat avec Lenny Johnson, directeur de A&R du label TVT Records, en 2005 après un concert « In the City » à Manchester. Ils citent comme influence The Cure ou encore Talking Heads et jouent en première partie de groupes tels que Editors, Mute Math,We Are Scientists ou encore The Bravery. Rencontrant du succès aussi bien au Royaume Uni et en Europe qu’aux USA grâce à leur singles
Break et Chase, un troisème single paraît en Février 2007 Keep Forgetting.
Leur premier album très attendu, A Strange Education, produit par Stephen Hague (New Order, Blur, Pet Shop Boys) sort le 6 mars 2007.
