As a total ignoramus on the Massacre front until now, I have to say I thought this was fantastic. I didn't like the opening track - a bit too 'sounds of the forest' , but after that it was great.

With the exception of "Seven Kinds of Wonderful", very tepid. I would say "pretty bad" or "terrible", but it is so underwhelming, generic, and lukewarm that is barely evokes emotional response of any kind.

it's under-stated. only a couple tracks i'm in love with. many of my favorites from this era haven't been released on albums yet; 'run run run (i'll walk and still catch you)', 'not dead, sleeping', the rough demo 'traum waffe'. even ridiculous exercises like 'mad lightning'. check youtube for these things. 'there's a war going on' is the best, it kills me every time, but it's only been a B-side (to 'Illuminomi') so far. but i don't see where any of it would fit in with these tracks. so Aufheben is not one of my favorites (yet?) but it's wonderful anyway. just right, as always. and probably the most coherent, transportive 'trip' of a BJM record in ages, unless you're like me and you think the peaks and valleys of My Bloody Underground form a perfect monolith of expression, as pure as it gets... ( @NotSoVelvet: Jeff Davies? um... haha. i just hope there will be room for a Matt Hollywood creation on one of these albums again )

Great album, so cool these guys keep releasing consistent quality stuff after so many years. Some of the psych stuff might not be very original but theres plenty of strong tracks here.

Better than the previous, far from beating My Bloody Underground. [2]

Kevin Shields tremolos? Check. Brian Jones' eastern melody-snatching? Check. Kraut rock rhythms? Check. Anton's nasally vocals? Scandinavian girl? Flutes? Check. Check. Check. A love song to all the best bits in rock music! cool.

sounds like Anton tried to make an album just like what Brian Jones did (brian jones presents the pipes of pan at joujouka)

Now that's an album. I'm a big fan of BJM's "Thank God for Mental Illness" era and listening to Aufheben is like rediscovering this familiar and magical sound.

Brilliant album, about the 6th time I have listened too it in a week. Well worth the wait, not their best ever album, but with out a doubt, it is most certainly up there with the greats. I did like their last album 'Who Killed St Pepper' but this album is good old BJM that I love. Can't wait to see them in two weeks :-)
