Brand New Heavies (BNH) est un groupe britannique d’acid jazz et d’alternative hip-hop, formé en 1985 dans Ealing, en Banlieue de Londres. À l’origine, un groupe instrumental de rare groove, BNH acquièrent une grande réputation sur les scènes des clubs londonien et signe très vite pour Cooltempo au moment ou l’acid house remplace le rare groove dans les clubs.
Les membres principaux du groupe sont Jan Kincaid, Simon Bartholomew et Andrew Levy.
Brand New Heavies choisi son nom après la signature de son premier contrat d’enregistrement en s’inspirant de la pochette d’un single de James Brown sur laquelle il est écrit : « Minister of New Super Heavy Funk ».
On retrouve sur tous les albums de Brand New Heavies leur sigle : un éléphant.

I don't know about the JK and BNH connection. Jay is moving in a different direction, doesn't really do conventional sweet jazzy love songs like BNH. Also his love of weed is so evident in most of his stuff, Space Cowboy, Cosmic Girl. Also I suspect J is not good at sharing the mike. Musically they were clearly in the Acid Jazz genre, but that's about it.

I definitely prefer BNH with N’Dea Davenport ! Saw them finally last year and it was just awesome. Put the funk back in it!

Just look at their Last.fm Top Tracks list for starters; the vanilla "Dream On Dreamer" and "Dream Come True" are in the top spots, with the far superior and more creative "Put the Punk Back In It" and "Music" down in the 20s. BNH listeners themselves are clueless about the band's best work. "... what's up with the world?" Not enough bland fare like "Dream On Dreamer," I guess!
