It's been a pretty wicked year for music so far and we're only three months in. I'm still chasing my tail trying to find time to listen to all these gems. Here are a few that stand out so far, plus a few random thoughts below.

* Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
I just couldn't duck the buzz of this release as it received generally positive acclaim from the various parties I tend to trust when it comes to music. "So Good At Being In Trouble" has been on constant rotation at my place since the day I first heard it on JJJ. It's psychedelic, it's funky and damn tasty!

* Emancipator - Dusk to dawn
I found myself completely enthralled with the first 6 tracks here, just in a trance of total goodness. A fine example of the downtempo/trip-hop sounds I so desperately crave. I do think he needs to change it up a little though…
