Symphony X est un groupe de métal progressif/power metal originaire du New Jersey, États-Unis, fondé en 1994 par le guitariste Michael Romeo. Leur album The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1997) et leur album V: The New Mythology Suite (2000) ont attiré sur le groupe l’attention de la communauté amatrice de metal progressif. Musicalement, bien que d’un son plus heavy, Symphony X se rapproche d’autres groupes de metal progressif tels que: Dream Theater, Fates Warning et Pain of Salvation. Ils jouent dans un style très syncopé et progressif en introduisant dans leur musique des éléments de métal symphonique. Leur musique montre une grande influence néo-classique, dans la lignée d’Yngwie Malmsteen ou Randy Rhoads.

Le groupe est composé aujourd’hui de: Michael Romeo (Guitare), Russel Allen (Chant), Michael Pinella (Claviers), Jason Rullo (Batterie) et Michael Lepond (Basse).

imho Damnation Game, Divine Wings, Twilight are their best 3, V and Odyssey just sounded too inconsistent overall as albums with a few good songs among them, paradise lost was good also, but a bit generic

Just noticed 'Eve of Seduction' off Paradise Lost (2007) sounds alot like 'Kick the Chair' from Megadeth's System has Failed (2004)
