Ich habe Soft Machine 1969 zum ersten Mal gehört und war begeistert. Heute ist die Bewunderung hinzugekommen, dass es kaum Vergleichbares gibt.

interesting combination of brass, percussion and keys on this track. Despite the length, it doesn't drag at all, a pleasure to listen to.

So many phrases in this track turn up on later Caravan tracks. Not that that's a bad thing, it actually makes it fun to spot them.

So the first 3 albums are fantastic! That's what i mean don't get me wrong but after it's over...i relally like the Kevin Ayer's period! It was crazy...the first album is not jazzy itù's not prog..it,s just totally different from anything else...like the first King Crimson or the second VDGG...or ....(fill with what you think)

Of course it,s interesting! But when Wyatt sings it's not interesting it,s amazing...I saw them in 73 or 74 for the 7th..Allan Holsworth first tour ... Montreal it was...and boring it was maneige were doing the first part and stole the show...After Wyatt's departure nothing interesting passionate and surprising came from this band... This is the last good album!4th is not very exciting so is fifth.. 6th is not bad their best album without Wyatt... but if you think at the same time (almost) wyatt is putting out Rock bottom then you forget all the Softs easily ..and just listen to this amazing album!...And i am not even speaking about the live he did of Rock Bottom... Oh GOD! grace and angels were in that body!

The delayed flute section is one of the rare times that this more jazzy version of the Softs sounds reminiscent of their brothers in Caravan. Lovely, pastoral stuff.

Oh yeah, and dear old Ivor Cutler was on the bill too, worth the price of the tickets on his own

What I said before about post-Wyatt Softs is not strictly true; I saw them when John Marshall was drumming with them, at a benefit gig for Robert after his accident, and they were stupendous. I can't remember who else would have been in the band, presumably Ratledge & Hopper, maybe Elton Dean, anyway it was before they started getting mixed up with those damned electric guitars again. They were on with the Floyd at the Rainbow, and I remember a group of us queuing up all night for tickets. What larks. This was years before the advent of online ticket-buying. Take note you modern-day softies, if we wanted to see a band we just had to bloody well stand in line for a ticket. Good job we wuz all stoned!!

Totally love the soprano sax in the last few minutes. what makes it even better for me is the whole sound, back then the limitations of recording and production meant that things couldn't be as smoothly produced as they are now, so it sounds good and organic, as if they are really playing off each other, good almost live feel
