Très actif dans la scène hip-hop underground en Amérique du Nord lors de la fin des années 90 (notamment au sein des Sebutones, avec Buck 65), c’est début 2000 que les choses commencent à se mettre en place pour Robert Squire, aka Sixtoo. Peu avant de quitter Halifax pour s’installer à Montréal, il produit « Duration », un classique du hip-hop instrumental, qui l’éloigne du micro et le place exclusivement derrière ses machines. En 2003, il publie « Chewing On Glass & Other Miracle Cures ». Il change de technique de production et contacte plusieurs musiciens (dont Damo Suzuki de Can, Norsola et Thierry de Godspeed You Black Emperor) pour lui fournir le matériau sonore qu’il découpe et arrange.
