Siouxsie and the Banshees est un groupe de rock anglais formé à Londres en 1976. Ce groupe culte a durablement marqué la scène musicale de la fin des années 70 jusqu’au début des années 90.

Leurs chansons ont notamment été reprises par LCD Soundsystem (« slowdive »), Massive Attack (« Metal Postcard » samplé sur « Superpredators (Metal Postcard) », Tricky (« Tattoo ») et Jeff Buckley (« Killing Time »).

Biographie :

La chanteuse Siouxsie et le bassiste Steven Severin sont les deux membres fondateurs du groupe. Avec le guitariste John McKay et le batteur Kenny Morris, ils enregistrent deux John Peel Sessions très remarquées pour la BBC. En 1978, le groupe sort un premier single post-punk, le sur-vitaminé

Hong Kong Garden classé dès sa sortie N°7 au Royaume-Uni. Leur premier album The Scream suit dans la foulée avec des morceaux qui préfigurent déja la Cold wave. Nick Kent écrit dans le NME. Le groupe sonne comme un héritage unique du Velvet Underground mélangé à une partie de l’ingéniosité de Can époque Tago Mago. Il poursuit ensuite avec la phrase suivante. Sûrement, le traditionnel son (guitare, basse, batterie) n’a jamais été utilisé aussi inhabituellement dans le passé avec des résultats aussi remarquables. L’album marque durablement les esprits et vingt ans plus tard, Massive Attack reprend la musique de

Metal Postcard sur la B.O.F. de The Jackal.

I`ve always loved The Cure and wanted to know music from similar bands. I know them only for several days and think they`re great. Siouxsie is the best female vocalist I`ve ever heard!

"i remember the first time i heard juju, i was almost tempted to become an actual 1980's goth, despite it being about 2003. " i had about the same experience. except...i did become an '80s goth. i was just born in the wrong decade.

I don't think of this music as music for candles and vampires tales, in my opinion Siouxsie and the Banshees is an awesome band of somber psychedelia, like dark hippies! and anyway.... just like Bauhaus, i think they are so much more than just gothic rock! that's what bothers me about labeling bands.
