Simple Plan est un groupe qui a vu le jour en 1998. Au début deux membres de ce groupe (Pierre Bouvier et Chuck Comeau qui étaient tous les deux au collège Beaubois, à Pierrefond, pour leurs secondaires) faisaient partie du groupe punk Reset qui s’était bien fait connaître au Québec. Chuck quitte alors le groupe et quelques temps plus tard monte Simple Plan avec Jeff Stinco et Sébastien Lefebvre. Ils sont alors à la recherche d’un chanteur et d’un bassiste. Pendant ce temps là, Pierre quitte Reset et est vite remplacé par David Desrosiers, une connaissance du groupe. Chuck rencontre un soir Pierre dans un concert de Sugar Ray et lui parle de son nouveau groupe. Pierre décide alors d’essayer. Mais avant de prendre son envol le groupe trouve qu’il manque quelque chose pour être plus proche de la foule. C’est ainsi qu’ils décident d’ajouter un cinquième membre au groupe afin que Pierre puisse lâcher son fou sur scène. Ils se souviennent alors de David qui a remplacé Pierre dans Reset et se disent qu’il s’agit de la pièce manquante. Les membres se sont acharnés à le convaincre qu’il devait se joindre à Simple Plan et après quelques secondes d’hésitation, David accepte. Simple Plan prend ainsi officiellement son envol. Le groupe enregistre ensuite une série de démos. Au même moment, Simple Plan commence à se produire dans la région de Montréal en plus de participer à plusieurs festivals d’envergure comme le Vans Warped Tour 2001, le Edge Fest II et le Snow Jam à Toronto.

oh and i forgot: the ultimate irony of the song (which somehow makes it even better) is that it says 'you don't know what it's like, to be me', any yet EVERYBODY knows what it's like to feel the things that simple plan mention in their song, they're basic human troubles. I sometimes wonder if that song was written ironically, but knowing simple plan i doubt it :D still love it though.

i have a soft spot for simple plan for writing my favourite bad song ever :D welcome to my life is something that i can listen to and it makes me laugh so much cause it just epitomises ludicrous teenage angst about nothing remotely important, but at the same time everybody has a 'welcome to my life' day when they feel unnecessarily sorry for themselves and just want to slam a door, put on some loud music and have a massive tantrum; anybody who doesn't has either achieved spiritual enlightenment or is lying. for this reason, welcome to my life is a great song, the anthem of the kind of self-pity that even you ought to be able to laugh at yourself for :p
